Engelberg, Switzerland
March 8-16, 2024

Sorry. Trip is full.

Engelberg is a fairy-tale village in the middle of a ski region offering the second-largest vertical in the Alps. The skiing is large and snow-secure.

LET’S GET PERSONAL: Over a decade ago, we took a group of 35 skiers to Engelberg. It snowed over 6 feet of snow while there. Each day was blower-dry knee-deep powder skiing… a dream. The backcountry skiing was immense. Every day, Skiman woke up hoping the skies would clear so we could fly. Finally on the last day of the week, a blue bird day arrived. We flew to the top of a huge glacier where no one had skied for over two weeks. The resultant runs were as good as skiing gets. It was truly one of the top-five ski days in Skiman’s decades of skiing….hoping for a repeat in 2024.

Engelberg, Switzerland

Ski Europe describes Engelberg well:

“Guaranteed snow cover. Thrilling off-piste backcountry skiing. Vibrant après ski.

Engelberg, a village of about 3,500 people, hides in a valley in the middle of Switzerland. The village is postcard- perfect. The mountain: imagine the Grand Canyon, with layers of horizontal rocky ledges and peaks like castle ruins. Frost it with snow and add a glacier and a lake or two. Engelberg also has the first revolving gondola: the 1993 Rotair. It takes skiers all the way to the top of Titlis, a 10,000 feet peak that faces north to hold its snow.”

AIR to Europe

Everyone will have to get their own air from their U.S. gateway city. You will leave the U.S, on March 8, 2024, arriving in Zurich airport before 1 PM March 9. RETURN: do not book anything earlier than 11 AM on March 16. Do NOT buy air until our minimum trip size has been reached.

Speaking of guided backcountry skiing:

We will offer backcountry skiing led by local Alpine Guides. The off-trail, backcountry skiing in the European Alps is as good as it gets and there is nothing quite like it in North America with the exception of heli-skiing. If you are an expert, you need to do this with us. The guided skiing in the Alps is always THE highlight of our ski season. It is the reason why Dan the Skiman has returned to ski the Alps for the past 28 years. The guides are masters from whom you learn so much, the terrain is unrivaled, the beauty of the Alps with no one around. The challenge going solo to Europe and skiing the backcountry is that the guides are expensive. But by having other skiers to divide the cost, it becomes very affordable.

NOTE: Heli-days in the Alps are spectacular, offering long runs and zero skiers. The scenery and the terrain make for BIG days. Only Italy and Switzerland allow heli-skiing. We are going to both countries this March, and we will fly one of our guided days if the conditions allow.

The Village and Terrace Hotel

The village and the Terrace Hotel Engleberg is charming, low-key, and beautiful. It is centuries old and was founded as a site for a monastery, which is still there. Our hotel is in the center of the village and everything is within walking distance. The Terrace is a beautiful property with a great spa facility. All of our rooms are upgraded superior-class. As with all our Alps ski tours, breakfast and a full dinner are included every day.

Doing both ski weeks:

We have many of our skier friends that want to make the most from their airfare and stay for both ski weeks. If you have the resources and the time, this is a great idea. You have to pay to fly over to Europe and back, so the longer you stay, the more value you are getting out of your ticket. Contact us for the details. Note: There will be a surcharge for the transfer between the two ski weeks for those doing both weeks.
