Dan the Skiman, pres. of Morningstar, has been taking groups to ski the Alps for over 3 decades. He has spent countless amazing days in Trois Vallee. Photo below is from his first trip many years past. This place put a big smile on his face then… always has, always will. Join us in 2026 in Trois Vallee and he promises one thing: it will put on smile on YOUR face! Continue reading for all the details.

In the 1960’s, the French government had a vision and a mission: find the perfect mountainous region in which to build a series of ski resorts, all connected by the biggest lift system in the world. They flew all over the French Alps to discover the optimum place to fulfill their goal. They succeeded and the result is what today is known as the Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) ski complex. Made up of three world-class resorts, Meribel, Corcheval, and Val Thorens make for enormity. It is difficult to describe just how massive this resort is. It is the largest ski complex on the planet, with 373 miles of designated groomed trails and 183 lifts. You can almost fit all of the ski resort terrain of Colorado, California, and Utah INSIDE of Trois Vallees! You cannot ski this all in months. It is spectacular. Morningstar has done five ski weeks in this region (including 2025’s trip) and has taken over 300 skiers to this resort. Everyone came away awestruck at the immensity and diversity of terrain. All of the resorts are connected by ski trails, so you can explore a long way and visit several villages via skis. (continued below)

Getting Personal…

For over 30 years, we’ve been journeying to the Alps with groups of passionate skiers and adventurous souls. Over that time, we’ve built deep, lasting relationships with the incredible people who help shape every trip into something unforgettable. These aren’t just business connections—they’re friends, family, and the heartbeat of our Alpine experiences.

One of the most cherished among them is Phillipe Laissus of Trois Vallées. Dan has been skiing with Phillipe across France for over two decades, and there’s truly no one like him. Every time we return to Trois Vallées, Phillipe is our head guide—not just because he’s one of the most skilled and knowledgeable guides in the region (which he is), but because of the warmth, joy, and personal magic he brings to every day on the mountain.

Skiing with Phillipe is never just about skiing. It’s about stories shared on quiet trails, a surprise visit to his great-grandfather’s hidden cabin in the woods for a glass of something warm, or a twilight descent that ends in a bonfire under the stars. It’s about skiing to the remote cabin he and his father built years ago, nestled on the edge of a regional park, and feeling like you’ve stepped into a piece of his life story.

Phillipe doesn’t just guide—he shares. And being in his presence, on his snow, in his beloved mountains, feels like being part of something truly special.

The challenge of Trois Vallees skiing can be affordability. The biggest and some of the best skiing comes at a price. We found a good way to offer our skiers an affordable way to experience this region without the sticker shock. When France hosted the Olympics here years ago, they connected the small thermal spa village of Brides les Bain (pronounced breed le bon) to Meribel via a 20-minute gondola ride. Our hotel, the 4-star Gulf, is a few-minutes’ walk to the gondola station. Guided groups: For experts the backcountry off-trail skiing in the Alps is spectacular and it is why we have been returning for decades. We always offer guided expert groups to access this terrain safely. We are also offering the same guided experience for intermediate and expert skiers who want to explore the trails and get some skiing pointers along the way. Led by local guides, these guided days are pricey for one or two skiers, but by having groups of 8 to divide the cost, it is very affordable. If you are an expert skier, you really must do this with us.

Summation: Trois Vallees has it all when it comes to skiing. We just completed a week there in Spring 2025 with 35 skiers. At the end of it when folks asked me where we are going next year, I replied, “Easy. Here. Why not?”   Every serious rider should experience this resort. For Skiman this will be week 6. He cannot wait to go back. He’s only scratched the surface of this ski behemoth.
